LEAPS: Teens

Got plans for April vacation? If not, then apply to attend LEAPS for Young Workers! LEAPS stands for: Leadership Education and Action to Promote Safety and is a three-day youth conference focused on workplace violence prevention, young worker safety and health, and Child Labor Laws. The conference will help you develop leadership and teamwork skills and also teach you more about your rights as a worker!

LEAPS will offer you:

  • A chance to learn what you can do about young worker issues such as workplace violence and violations of the Child Labor Law.
  • Twelve workshops over the 3 days as well as an action plan workshop.
  • Time to prepare to educate others on what you've learned and develop projects to better your community.
  • Support from peer leaders and advisors to develop and implement your plans as well as a stipend when you're done!

This is a great opportunity for anyone who is a self-advocate and/or interested in building and maintaining a strong connection to their community!

First, to sign up for the conference, you'll need to form a team (4-6 teens) who are 14-17* years old. You'll also need one adult advisor (over the age of 21).

Second, have everyone on your team complete the application:

Third, mail them in by January 31st, 2008 (priority deadline). We will review the applications and have confirmations and registration packets sent out by February 29, 2008.

*For those who are over the age of 17, there is no reason to be left out, be a volunteer!
